Kara has lead a life of travel and adventure and wouldn't have it any other way. Born to an English teacher mother and dentist father in Annapolis MD, she is the eldest of three. Attracted by the diversity of a large university, she attended Florida State University and graduated with honors with a BA in Broadcast Journalism. As a student, she wrote, produced and directed numerous feature stories for Seminole Sports Magazine, which aired on the Sunshine Network, Florida's largest regional sports network. After completing two television news internships in Vail, CO and Washington, D.C. and a stint as a travel corespondent for a Canadian travel show, Kara decided to take a sabbatical in search of more exotic adventures. Africa called, and she answered by backpacking around the continent for four months. Among her favorite experiences were white water rafting class V rapids on the Zambezi at Victoria Falls, sand boarding the Namibian dunes, witnessing the great wildebeest migration in the Serengeti and most importantly, interacting with local people on a daily basis. She learned to truly appreciate all that life offers and to be grateful for the vast opportunities available in America. Desiring a creative challenge, Kara switched gears and chose New York City to pursue an acting career. She was accepted to study with Anthony Abeson, Susan Batson and Lesly Kahn (in L.A.) and started booking leads in Indie Films and numerous national commercials. One Indie, "Fighting Irish" was accepted into many festivals and won "Best of" the Philadelphia Video Festival. As her career progressed, she gained experience in bigger budgeted projects including working alongside Mark Ruffalo in "Just Like Heaven" and T.R. Knight in "Last Request". Comedic roles also came as she booked parts in several skits for the "David Letterman" and "David Spade" Shows. Kara has been able to continue to satisfy her love of travel through print work where she has been booked extensively throughout Europe, the U.S. and the Caribbean on fashion and catalog shoots. Some of Kara’s national and international campaigns have included Nivea, Hanes, Ponds, Caress and Seiko. She has graced covers and editorial spreads for Health, Fitness, Glamour, Pregnancy, Baby Couture, Washingtonian, Manhattan and New Jersey Bride Magazines. Currently, you can catch Kara's voice work in the film short "Queen of Beechwood Drive" - which recently screened at the 2009 Women In FIlm Festival in Vancouver, BC. She also recently shot a mock-documentary for Pandemic Studio's "Saboteur" for Xbox and has a feature film, "Awakened", due out this spring. (Visit TheAwakenedMovie.com) Through the SAG Foundation, Bookpals, she volunteers her time reading to children at shelters, enjoys playing the piano and, of course, exotic travel when she gets the chance. |
